Here's what we'll be covering in Social Studies this year...
In the beginning of the year, we will concentrate on the "school skills" that help students to be more successful in middle school and beyond. These include but are not limited to:
having the necessary supplies writing in planner time management using technology resources studying for tests (StudentVUE, teacher websites. teacher email) using feedback organizing backpack
Then the course will address the following more traditional content:
Current events (throughout the year, corresponding to topic being studied) Elections Geography, culminating in the creation of an atlas that will be used to monitor current events Tools of historians (types of sources, dates) Prehistoric humans and the development of civilization The ancient river valley civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Harappa, China) World religions/belief systems (Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism/Daoism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam) Ancient Greece Ancient and Classical Rome The so-called "Dark" Ages Middle Ages/Medieval times Renaissance/Reformation Age of Exploration
