Objectives: -- Identify the causes of WWII Activities: -- Spend about 12 minutes creating "Leaders" page -- Read p. 802-805 in textbook. Take notes on causes of the war. (Notes include some from Ms. Schaedler as well as textbook. See below.) -- Receive handouts on various political/economic systems -- Add examples to handout showing continuum Independent Learning: -- Weekly Weekend Work -- Check StudentVUE -- Do any missing work -- Check OG gmail for messages from teachers -- Clean out/organize backpack -- Restock supplies (If you need any supply that you don't have, on Monday morning ask for them at the office or come to my room first thing.) Notes/Handouts/Material covered in class: Causes of WWII: 1. Treaty of Versailles Pay reparations (war damages) Citizens vulnerable to hopeful messages by speakers who promised glory to Germany 2. Great Depression (affected countries world-wide) 3. Rise of Dictators (all felt their society was superior to others) Stalin (Totalitarianism) in USSR [gov't has total control] Mussolini (Fascism) in Italy [extreme nationalism, militarism, blind loyalty] Hitler (Nazism/Fascism) in Germany [racism/anti-Semitism] General Tojo (military takeover of gov't) 4. Military Aggression (all relatively unchallenged) Japan --> China (Manchuria & Nanjing) for land and resources Italy --> Ethiopia Germany --> Rhineland, Austria, Sudetenland (part of Czechoslovakia) 5. Appeasement (letting aggressors have a little of what they want in exchange for a promise to stop) Promises weren't kept Aggressors (Hitler) were emboldened 6. American Neutrality (Isolationism due to WWI)
